Mother’s Day is always a little bittersweet for me. My Mom’s been gone for over 10 years now, and it was really only in my 30’s that I really began to appreciate her and all of the wonderful things about her. Although I can’t send her a card, I think about her just about every day. She would have loved the way social media has developed and I know she would have used it to learn. She always loved to learn about new things and tinker. That’s where I got my inquisitive nature, the urge to tinker with things and find out how they work.
She would have loved what Stacy Monk and the team at Epic Change are doing for Mama Lucy in Tanzania. Epic Change created a very cool web site where you can leave a “Heartspace” memory or note for your mom and donate something to help build a boarding facility for the kids who go to the school she created in Tanzania. The idea takes that emotional connection with Mother’s day and channels it to raise funds for the school in a way that makes everybody feel good all around.
You can upload a picture of you and of your mom and leave her a love note on the site, then send her an e-card as well to commemorate it. Browsing the over 200 notes up on the site already is a moving and lovely experience. Check it out at ToMamaWithLove.org. Share it with your friends and help spread the word.
