The Shorty Awards honor Twittererati in a variety of categories ranging from advertising, apps and branding to startups, tech and weird. The idea is to recognize your favorite tweeple in 140 characters or less (including the link to the awards page).
A quick scan of the top nominees so far shows the usual suspects of course, @guyKawasaki, @briancarter, @chrisbrogan and @zeldman are nominated in 4 categories and @breakingnewson is nominated in the news category, but there were several tweeters I didn’t know and want to know more about.
The five people with the most nominations in each category will go on to the final voting round, held January 5th to 14th, and the awards ceremony will be held in New York in late January, where
the winners can deliver their 140-character acceptance speeches!
In typical Twitter fashion the awards are a bit tongue in cheek and a bit serious and it’s up to you to figure out which is which, but it’s an interesting way to see what people are known for and who’s known in which areas of interest. Check it out and nominate your favorite Tweeple right from the site, or tweet @shortyawards with a @nominee and a #category, and why you think they should win.
